Four puzzles that stay the same for good: play them in any order, stop when you like, and come back to finish.

About the puzzles in this set

Hidden Word

Five letters and six tries. The answer can be any word of the English answer list, and the strict rule is on: every letter you have found must be used again in your next guess.

Many answers end in E, T, Y or R. Settling the last letter early often unlocks the rest.

Skyscrapers

A 6 × 6 grid in which the heights 1 to 6 appear once in every row and once in every column. 13 of the 24 edge clues are printed, and one tower is already standing.

With no 1 on the edge, compare opposite clues: they add up to at most 7, and the tallest tower stands between the two sides at a distance that fits both.

Golf

Seven columns of five cards, 16 cards in the stock and one on the pile. The solver cleared this deal in 51 moves, turning 16 of the stock cards.

An ace sits on top of a column. An ace only takes a two, so a two on the pile is worth more than it looks.

Four in a Row

Dark to move and win within 4 moves, whatever the other side replies. Key ideas: forcing sequence, diagonal line.

The first move may look quiet. Check which empty cells would complete a line for you; a threat directly above another threat is often what decides the position.
