How today's set is chosen
The set follows from the date alone. Everyone who opens Toque on the same calendar day gets the same grid, the same deal and the same board problem; the hidden word comes from the word list of the language you are reading, so the Italian, Hungarian and Finnish pages each have their own. Nothing is fetched from a server that knows who you are — your browser simply picks up the set that belongs to today.
Strength through the week
Monday and Tuesday are mild: the hidden word comes from the most common third of five-letter words, the grid is 4 × 4 and the board problem is a win within two moves.
Wednesday to Friday are medium: a word from the common two thirds, a 5 × 5 grid and a win within three moves.
Saturday and Sunday are strong: any word from the full answer list with the strict rule switched on, a 6 × 6 grid and a win within four moves. The Golf deal follows the same rules every day, and it is always a deal that the solver managed to clear.
How the morning score works
Each solved puzzle is worth 100 points, so a full set gives up to 400. A hint costs 20 points. In the hidden word every guess after the first costs another 10. A solved puzzle never drops below 40, and a hidden word that runs out of tries scores nothing. Your time is shown but does not change the score: slow mornings are allowed.
Streaks
A day counts towards your streak when all four puzzles of that day are solved. Skip a day, or leave one puzzle unsolved, and the count starts again with the next full set. The streak and the scores are kept only in this browser — see the privacy page.
When does the next set appear?
At 00:00 by the clock of your own device. If the page is open over midnight, it tells you that a fresh set is ready.
Can I play yesterday's set?
The daily page always shows today's set. For more puzzles, the archive holds numbered sets that never change.
Does the order of the tabs matter?
No. Play the puzzles in any order and come back to one later; each tab keeps its own progress.
What happens if I clear my browser data?
Scores, streak and unfinished puzzles live in this browser alone, and clearing its data removes them. The puzzles themselves stay the same.
