Four puzzles that stay the same for good: play them in any order, stop when you like, and come back to finish.
About the puzzles in this set
Hidden Word
Five letters and six tries. The answer comes from the most common two thirds of the English five-letter words.
If two guesses leave you with few vowels, think of a double letter: about three answers in ten repeat one.
Skyscrapers
A 5 × 5 grid in which the heights 1 to 5 appear once in every row and once in every column. 11 of the 20 edge clues are printed, and no tower is given.
There is one clue of 1 on the edge: the tallest tower stands in the cell right next to it.
Golf
Seven columns of five cards, 16 cards in the stock and one on the pile. The solver cleared this deal in 49 moves, turning 14 of the stock cards.
Starting card of the pile: the 8. Look for a long up-and-down run before turning a stock card — the stock has no second pass.
Four in a Row
Dark to move and win within 3 moves, whatever the other side replies. Key ideas: forcing sequence, horizontal line.
Look for a first move that forces a reply, then one more that creates two threats at once.
